Yacht Rock is the smooth, melodic soft rock genre that dominated the airwaves in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Known for its glossy production, breezy vocals, and bouncy rhythms, this music evokes sun-soaked images of relaxing bay cruises and carefree coastal living. The term “Yacht Rock” was popularized by a comedy web series that reignited love for these top-charting hits.
Think silky harmonies and mellow grooves from artists like Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald, Hall & Oates, Toto, Steely Dan, and Kenny Loggins, the perfect soundtrack for your nautical daydreams — or your actual time on the water. If you can sail to it, it must be Yacht Rock.
It all kicks off at noon and sails through the weekend until Sunday. Pop your collar, slip on the dock shoes, and join us in the Yacht Rock Lounge, on-air.

Little River Band
Thursday, August 20
If Yacht Rock Weekend leaves you wanting one more voyage, Little River Band is the perfect next stop.
Few bands embody the Yacht Rock sound quite like Little River Band. Their signature harmonies, polished production, and effortless melodies helped define the smooth rock era of the late ’70s and early ’80s, making them one of the genre’s most enduring favorites.
Among their most recognizable Yacht Rock classics is “Cool Change” (1979), the band’s ultimate nautical anthem. With its relaxed melody and lyrics about sailing away, it’s become one of the defining songs of the Yacht Rock genre. “Reminiscing” (1978) followed with jazzy chords, soaring harmonies, and an unmistakable saxophone hook that perfectly captured the polished sound of late-’70s radio. Then came “Lady” (1979), a beautifully layered ballad blending acoustic and electric instrumentation with the warm, sun-soaked sound that Yacht Rock fans know and love.
Opening the evening is The Pocket Kings, setting the stage for another memorable night of live music before Little River Band takes over.
Starship featuring Mickey Thomas
Thursday, August 13
Few bands have delivered as many unforgettable rock anthems as Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. With Mickey Thomas’ unmistakable powerhouse vocals, fans can expect an evening filled with iconic hits that have become staples of classic rock radio, including We Built This City, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, Sara, and Jane.
The evening begins with performances by the Alex McMurray Band and special guest Paul Sanchez, making it a full night of outstanding live music before Starship takes the stage.
